UPDATE (2:15 - Sept 6/18):
Witnesses say the situation on Adams Road began when the suspect, who was covered in blood, began damaging a vehicle outside Space Centre Self Storage, and became aggressive when confronted by a civilian, who managed to escape uninjured.
RCMP Corporal Jesse O'Donaghey says the suspect also became hostile towards first responders before barricading himself inside the business.
"Kelowna RCMP surrounded the commercial building and called for the support of the RCMP South East District Emergency Response Team (SED ERT), Police Dog Services and specially trained crisis negotiators," says O'Donaghey. "At Approximately 11:30 AM, tactically trained SED ERT members breached the front door of the commercial unit in an attempt to establish direct communication with the male."
When the suspect didn't respond or cooperate, SED ERT members used non-lethal rounds and a canine unit to apprehend him.
He was medically evaluated at the scene, and was placed into an ambulance under police custody.
Adams Road has since re-opened to traffic.
