An RCMP Underwater Team has recovered the body of a boat operator who died after the tug boat he was operating sunk Monday night in Okanagan Lake.
Friends on social media have identified the victim as Ivor Lundin.
An investigation is underway at Tolko Industries, on Bay Avenue near Ellis Street, where Lundin worked and where the incident happened.
Kelowna RCMP was called to the mill before 9:30pm, after receiving a call from a Tolko employee who reported a marine incident involving a tug boat that had sunk in Okanagan Lake, near Manhattan Point.
When police arrived, the boat's operator was unaccounted for, prompting a search of the area. Kelowna Fire Department and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue were called to assist and using an underwater camera the body of the operator was discovered inside the sunken ship.
BC Coroners Service and WorkSafe BC are assisting Kelowna RCMP in the investigation.
Plans are now being made to recover the sunken vessel for examination.
