Status on the Eagle Bluff wildfire remains 'Out of Control,' however; Friday's planned ignitions were a success.
The BC Wildfire Service tracked the perimeter of the fire last night and now lists it as 2680 hectares in size.
While an evacuation alert remains in place for the Regional District of the Okanagan-Similkameen for electoral area C and to the Osoyoos Indian Band, Fire Information Officer Shannon Street told AM 1150 the fire is not threatening any structures at this time.
Planned ignitions have helped in creating control lines between community and fire, said street.
“Currently most of the growth is happening away from communities, which is a good thing. Some of the growth has also pushed the fire into more operable terrain, so it’s a lot safer and more effective for crews and heavy equipment to be working, which makes it a lot easier for us.”
With cooler weather in the wings, fire personnel are hoping for some relief.
“We are anticipating a little bit of rain and some cooler temperatures today and into the weekend so we're expecting to see a little less in terms of fire behaviour out there and not necessarily a lot of growth.”
If conditions permit, crews will execute another planned ignition in the next day or two.
According to Street, if BC Wildfire reports further growth in the fire, it will likely be a result of the controlled burn.
