Fire investigators are trying to determine how a car fire started on a vacant lot in West Kelowna.
Crews were called to the property on Gates Road, off of Glenrosa Road, just before 12:30pm after receiving multiple reports of smoke and visible flames.
“When the first engine arrived on scene they realized it was actually 3 or 4 cars on fire that had spread into the wildland,” said Assistant Fire Chief Darren Lee “It was moving through some dry grass and brush into the trees.”
The fire grew to about 30x30m of bush fire before it was put out.
Lee says no one was around when the fire started.
“As far as I know there are no actual structures on the lot but someone’s storing upwards of 10 cars in various states of repair.”
The fire is believed to be human caused, although it’s not considered suspicious at this time.
