Another supportive housing complex for Kelowna has been announced by the BC government.
50 units are planned for McIntosh Road in Rutland - between Asher Road and Rutland Road North. Residents will have self-contained studios with a private washroom and kitchenette.
Unlike the Agassiz Road complex approved by City Council last night, McIntosh Road will not be subject to a public hearing.
"What will require council's approval is a development permit which would govern how the building looks" said Mayor Colin Basran. "That will come to council as this project application works it's way through the planning department."
Similar to the project on Agassiz, the McIntosh facility will be operated by the John Howard Society, with staff on-site 24/7.
"You need a roof over your head before you can make any meaningful change on the road to recovery." said Basran. "That's why we are supportive of the housing-first initiatives in our community."
Once the development permit is signed - construction is set to begin in this spring - and be completed by the fall.
