Urgent Care is coming to West Kelowna - but not in a brand new building just yet.
MLA Ben Stewart, who attended a Kelowna Chamber of Commerce event this week, said initially, urgent care services will not be located on land the city purchased on Elliot Road 11 years ago.
"That's not part of the Urgent Care plan that they (the government) have though - the Urgent Care plan is more about taking over existing space, and renting it out, until there's such a time when they get a plan together that includes building new free standing operations, like what was envisioned for that site when it was first purchased," he said.
Stewart has presented a West Kelowna report to the Health Minister which outlined reasons why an Urgent Care centre is needed on the westside, and he believes Adrian Dix will make an announcement early in the new year.
He says the Ministry of Health is considering up to two sites in the Central Okanagan.
