Kelowna RCMP say the quick actions of a vehicle's driver and passersby prevented a vehicle fire from getting out of control in West Kelowna Thursday afternoon.
Police say the vehicle's owner detected smoke and pulled over onto the shoulder on Stevens Road near Ross Road at around 3:30 pm.
Using multiple fire extinguishers, RCMP say passersby helped the owner to keep the fire from spreading to tinder dry grass along the shoulder of Stevens Road and to commercial businesses nearby.
RCMP and the West Kelowna Fire Department ensured the fire was fully suppressed before having the vehicle towed.
The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, was not hurt aside from smoke inhalation during efforts to put out the blaze.
