Today marks the 10th anniversary of the W.R Bennett Bridge.
The five-lane structure was officially opened May 25th, 2008 at a price tag of 144 million dollars.
Asked to comment, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure sent this e-mail to AM 1150 News.
"The ministry is very pleased with the performance of the William R. Bennett Bridge over its first 10 years. It has improved safety and mobility for travellers and should continue to effectively serve the people of Kelowna and those travelling through the region for years to come. The ministry continues to have a positive working relationship with the concessionaire, SNC-Lavalin, which keeps the bridge in good operating condition and responds quickly whenever issues arise, while also ensuring timely communication with the ministry."
The new bridge was designed to ease traffic snarls and is capable of handling 80 thousand vehicles daily.
The bridge is named after former BC Premier William Richards Bennett, a native of Kelowna.
