Tactical members of the RCMP Emergency Response Team, worked collaboratively with plain clothes officers of the Kelowna RCMP to safely effect the arrest of a wanted suspect. Investigators believed the man to be responsible for a series of violent interactions with the victims in recent months in the Kelowna and West Kelowna area.
On October 4th, 2020 it is alleged that the suspect pointed a firearm at the two victims. They immediately called 911 but the suspect fled the area when police arrived. Despite vigorous efforts, he was not located at that time.
In speaking with the victims it was learned that on April 22nd, 2020., it is alleged that the suspect pointed a firearm at the victims and threatened them. No one was injured in either incident.
“The victims and suspect were known to each other- these are not random criminal acts,” states Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy, Media Relations Officer for the Kelowna RCMP.
“Due to the suspects escalating violent behaviour, covert plain clothes operators were tasked with bringing him into custody safely,” says Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy. “Those members located their target Wednesday evening in Kelowna. To ensure public and police safety, a coordinated arrest was carried out by the Emergency Response Team, supported by additional front line officers, a police canine unit.”
The 43-year-old Kelowna man remains in police custody at this time. He faces numerous criminal charges and is expected to appear in Court on Thursday (October 8th).
No further information is being released at this time.
