The City of West Kelowna will take its first look at bylaw changes that would help regulate medical marijuana facilities, at its meeting on Tuesday.
The changes would centre around requirements for commercial marijuana facilities to make sure they have security and air filtration systems, which cut down on the odour from production, as well as any public safety risks.
The bylaw also doesn't allow for marijuana to be grown at a facility that's inside a multi-tenant building.
Production would also be restricted to light industrial zones, with the exception of distribution coming from a pharmacy.
At the end of last week, West Kelowna RCMP also publicly re-itereated its position that marijuana dispensaries that are operating are doing so illegally, and that police intend to enforce the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
