The West Kelowna Fire Department is welcoming a batch of new recruits.
On Tuesday, the department welcomed 10 new firefighters to the city.
"Our fire department continues to grow as our city continues to grow" said Fire Chief Jason Brolund.
"It's our job as a fire department to meet those needs and [to] be there and able to protect the city"
The additional manpower means more fulsome coverage of the west side while also easing the workload of veteran firefighters.
"It will allow us to staff the fire engine in Lakeview Heights with four firefighters around the clock" said Brolund.
"It also will help with the amount of overtime that the existing firefighters are working."
The recruits are expected to finish their training near the end of September.
