Calgary based-developers IBI have put forward their first pitch to West Kelowna City Council for the Blackmun Bay Village.
The project, which would be located on Campbell Road right next to the shore of Okanagan Lake, would include towers over a dozen storeys high, as well as apartments, condos, and a winery. This would give it a feel of both a living space and a resort.
The pitch stems from the increasing popularity of tourism right here in the Okanagan, with West Kelowna being no exception.
West Kelowna Mayor Doug Findlater appeared on the Early Edition with Phil Johnson on Wednesday morning to discuss what kind of challenges IBI, as well as City Council, could face before possibly greenlighting the project in the future.
"They'll need to work with the Westbank First Nations, the Agricultural Land Reserve, the Ministry of Transportation," says Findlater. "But they seem to be up to the challenge."
Some City planners have voiced their opposition to the plan, saying that it would be generally too big and too out of place for the area in question. They insisted that, should City Council look further at the plan, they should consider significantly smaller towers.
