West Kelowna councillors voted this week to write a letter to BC Hydro to try and get things moving on a second power line.
In an update to council, Hydro said the initial project completion date of 2022 has been pushed to 2025, with a decision on a preferred route expected early next year.
The front-runner is to connect the Westbank Substation with the Nicola Substation. Councillors support the idea.
Right now, BC Hydro has only one transmission line feeding West Kelowna, Westbank First Nation, Peachland, parts of the Regional District of Central Okanagan and as far south as Summerland.
Power security has been a priority for West Kelowna for years, especially after a wildfire threatened the whole infrastructure in 2014.
