West Kelowna council has voted to keep its soccer dome dream alive.
At this week's meeting, council voted to cancel a half dozen smaller projects to put up the required $3.1 million.
Those projects ranged from new grass fields to park washrooms.
Mayor Doug Findlater says it's hard to turn down over half a million dollars in funding.
"Right now, we have money that's on the table from Westside Youth Soccer (Association), that they've been able to secure," he said.
"$600,000 in funding and some of their own money - that's what's at play here. We have a substantial offer of funding to help us do this, and I hate leaving money on the table," he said.
In light of not seeing a business plan for the field at the meeting, Findlater reminded council that turning a profit on the dome isn't a realistic expectation.
"Recreation facilities, they run at a loss. I mean, do we have any recreation facilities that make money for us?" he said.
"Our pool doesn't, our arenas don't, our sports fields don't, it's a service we provide for the good of the public. And it's all ages, because old people play soccer, too."
The next step will be for the city and the soccer association to devise a plan that covers the building and operating of the dome.
Council also heard that the dome wouldn't be able to accommodate high school football teams, outside of being an option for team practices.
