West Kelowna City Council is looking to proceed with planning for the construction of a soccer dome in the new year.
Despite the initial budget for the project being more than doubled, from $1 million dollars to $2.5 million, council says it's still keen on seeing it through.
Councilor Rusty Ensign says that its costs must be seriously analyzed.
"We need to have a realistic figure with a contingency, and we need to play on the safe side of what it's going to cost. But we can't overestimate what it's going to cost, to the point where we're not going to do it," he said.
Right now, the city has funded a half million dollars for the project, while the Westside Youth Soccer Association has raised roughly $650,000 dollars.
Mayor Doug Findlater says there's still lots of interest in getting the project moving.
"Now is not the time to say we can't do it. We do need more information, we'll have that discussion later on. And we have to hear from the Soccer Association too, I think that's critical, about what they can do to make this happen," he said.
Councilor Duane Ophus voiced his frustration at the lack of progress so far.
"I understand the roadblocks, and so on and so forth, that's been put in place. But from my perspective, this project had better be given some urgent attention," he said.
The project was initially introduced with a $1 million price tag, but got delayed when the search for suitable land became an issue.
