The City of West Kelowna is taking its opposition to the proposed speculation tax to the next level.
On Tuesday, council approved plans for staff to submit a freedom of information request to the province, in an attempt to get a copy of all information provincial officials used to determine that West Kelowna be included in the tax.
In a report to council, CAO Jim Zaffino says the information would then be used by the city, to better defend its position against the tax.
Last month, city staff put together a 22-page booklet for the Ministry of Finance, to explain its opposition to the tax and why it won't be effective in West Kelowna.
Zaffino says there have been many follow up emails and phone calls made, but that there's been no reply from the provincial end.
Mayor Doug Findlater will also write an open letter to the premier, where he can reiterate the reasons why West Kelowna should be exempt.
The city has said it has concerns over lost revenues, reduced property values, and a slowdown of local development.
