A procession and funeral for West Kelowna fire Captain Troy Russell wil be held next Tuesday, October 9th.
Russell, a 20-year veteran, died September 25th after a heroic battle with cancer.
West Kelowna Fire Rescue says his death is the department's first "in-the-line-of-duty", as the cancer he experienced was directly related to his work as a firefighter.
The procession will leave from 1655 Westgate Road (Super 8 Motel Parking Area) at 11:45 am, and will travel eastbound on Ross Road to Hewl Road, then southbound on Hewl Road to Royal LePage Place (2760 Cameron Road).
Two ladder trucks will have raised ladders in the form of an arch for the procession to travel through. The procession will include family members, fire service personnel, emergency personnel and vehicles.
Members of the public are encouraged to line the procession route and to be in place no later than 11:30 am.
Due to limited space, the public will not be allowed on the floor of Royal LePage Place as this will be reserved for family and emergency personnel.
The public is asked to proceed to the seating bowl. The funeral will begin at 1:00 pm.
Please note that parking will be extremely limited on site. The walking track in Royal LePage place will be closed all day on Tuesday, October 9th.
