With the rat population booming on the Lower Mainland, West Kelowna council wants the provincial government to do something about it, before it becomes a larger problem here.
The rat population has increased in the City of Kelowna since the 2003 Okanagan Mountain Park Fire while the situation has worsened in West Kelowna following the Glenrosa Fire in 2009.
Mayor Doug Findlater says the municipality would like to see a province-wide rat reduction policy put into place:
“People are asking local governments to do something on this. It would be a very expensive program for local government. What would it accomplish if it wasn’t done on a larger scale? We are asking the province to take a look and see what they can do with it.”
West Kelowna will bring the resolution forward during the Southern Interior Local Government Association (SILGA) general meeting at Sun Peaks in April.
