On July 9, 2020 just before 1:45 p.m., emergency crews in West Kelowna rushed to Okanagan Lake near the 2000 block of Boucherie Rd in response to a 911 emergency call for a report a drowning incident. Police learned that a 65-year-old man was swimming into the waters of Okanagan Lake and failed to re-surface.
Witnesses located and pulled the man from the water within minutes and immediately began CPR. Emergency services arrived on scene and continued life saving efforts, however the man could not be resuscitated.
“Despite the best efforts of everyone involved and the heroic efforts of witnesses, the man passed away,” states Cst. Solana Paré. “RCMP Victim Services are providing support to the witnesses, friends and family of the victim. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the friends and family of the victim during this difficult time.”
The BC Coroners Service is also investigating the man’s sudden death. Due to the privacy of the deceased, neither organization will be releasing or confirming identity. No other information is available at this time.
