West Kelowna City Council has approved the renaming of the sportsfield next door to Mar Jok elementary school in Rose Valley.
It'll be called Mar Fee Park. Mar Fee was the older brother of Mar Jok.
Nancy Henderson is the West Kelowna General Manager of Develpment Services.
She says the Mar family history is quite something. The brothers came here in the 1920's. They owned and operated the Golden Pheasant Cafe in downtown Kelowna for years. During the depression, they fed those that needed a meal out the back door. They helped establish other Chinese Canadians here and in the 1950's bought and farmed the land that is now Rose Valley.
She says they plan to create the Mar family story on site so we all will all know their history.
Mar Fee Park is where the new West Kelowna indoor soccer facility will be built.
