The City encourages the community to participate in the first questionnaire now through the fall. Creating a clear and inspired community vision is the first step in updating the City’s Official Community Plan that will guide the community for the next 10 years and beyond.
#OURWK invites everyone to embrace and participate in transforming West Kelowna together. The desire is to involve as many people as possible and the City highly encourages widespread community input to shape the future.
“While our current Official Community Plan has served us well over the past 10 years, we realize we are a different community than we were when that plan was developed,” says Mayor Gord Milsom. “It’s time for us to look forward to what we want the next 10 years and beyond to look like with strong input from our community. Our Council and community should decide together what we want to achieve as a City and then update our plans to effectively reach that common vision.”
From now through early 2021, the City will be rolling out various questionnaires and engagement opportunities, online and in the community, to ask for residents’ insights on what they treasure about our City, the issues to address and their ideas for keeping West Kelowna on a path toward success.
Physical distancing guidelines will be implemented and the City will be watching for opportunities this summer to be innovative as COVID-19 requirements change. The process is intended to help the City understand what matters most to the community and to use these insights to set the future direction. A draft Community Vision will then be reviewed and refined through further community engagement later this year.
