Interior Health is warning the public after two dead ravens discovered in the Kootenays tested positive for West Nile Virus.
IH says concentrations of the Virus have been small across the province so far this year, but it is still hard to detect either way, as only 20 percent of those infected show any symptoms.
These can include fever, headaches, and muscle weakness, with very rare cases involving severe symptoms such as paralysis.
IH has provided the following tips to prevent the spread of the Virus.
From 2016 to 2017, there were three confirmed cases of the virus in humans throughout BC, two of which were travel-related. There were also 14 cases of the Virus showing up in horses during that timeframe.
The BC Centre for Disease Control says the first indication of the virus spreading is when it shows up in animals, especially birds.
