The City of West Kelowna is taking over running the historic Westbank Lions Hall.
The Westbank Lions Club has agreed to transfer the hall and the property to the city by way of a charitable trust.
West Kelowna will now manage the facility, and says as of April 1st, it'll administer bookings for the hall.
Mayor Doug Findlater says the hall will continue to host weddings, public meetings, cultural and recreational events and other celebrations.
The contract for the transfer of the facility indicates that the land will always be used for the purpose of operating a community hall for the benefit of residents of West Kelowna and that the land may not be transferred, conveyed, encumbered, mortgaged, redeveloped or otherwise disposed of.
The hall will also be prominently identified as the Westbank Lions Community Centre.
The municipality will maintain the current leases with not for profits, including the Canadian Red Cross Health Equipment Loan Office and the Westside Youth Centre.
The Westbank Lions Hall was first established in 1928.
