A few anxious moments this afternoon at Kelowna International Airport.
A suspicious item was found aboard a WestJet flight that was about to leave the tarmac.
As a safety precaution, emergency crews were dispatched to respond to the incident.
The threat was deemed non-credible and normal operations of the airport have resumed.
The RCMP have sent out a release on their invovlement in the matter.
RCMP in Kelowna are working alongside Kelowna International Airport officials, as police investigate a suspicious items discovered on board an empty aircraft.
On August 19, 2019 at 2:16 p.m., RCMP were notified of a suspicious occurrence on board a plane being prepared for departure from the Kelowna International Airport. Police were told that crews located a suspicious item on board the aircraft, which had no passengers on board at the time of the discovery.
“Airport officials evacuated the aircraft as a precaution and called in emergency crews,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesman for the Kelowna RCMP. “Although police do not believe the item poses a threat, RCMP plan to conduct a precautionary search of the aircraft to ensure public safety.”
According to YLW officials, airport operations are not being impacted the ongoing police investigation.
