Work will continue this spring and summer to fix Westside Road.
A few years ago, the highway received the dubious distinction of being named the most dangerous road in the province by the BC Automobile Association.
The narrow section on Westside Road, from La Casa Resort to Muir Road, will be widened and straightened, guard rails will be installed, and the shoulder will be paved for cyclists and pedestrians.
That 1.3 kilometre stretch has steep rock cliffs on one side, and 20 to 50 metre embankments down to Okanagan Lake on the other.
The project will also include slope-stabilization work, and crossing improvements at the intersection with Barcelona Drive - which should be completed by mid-May.
The entire $5.7-million upgrade is expected to be completed in December.
