Kelowna’s dockless bikeshare pilot will see between 500 and 1,500 bikes hit the ground this Spring and the City wants to know where you want the pick-up/drop-off havens.
Bikeshare havens are designated zones within the city where users can pick up and drop off bikes. Because Dropbike operates a dockless system, there is no need to for physical stations or hubs. Instead, haven locations can be accessed digitally through the Dropbike app. Users who end their trip within a haven benefit from lower pricing. Leaving them outside of the haven means a penalty fee which becomes a "bounty" according to Matt Worona, Active Transportation Coordinator. Other users could collect the bounty by taking the bike back to a haven, to collect a credit.
Residents can learn more about the pilot and share their preferred haven locations until April 30 at getinvolved.kelowna.ca. Worona says "We're trying to get a sense of what kind of trips would be really valuable...sometimes it's just a little bit out of reach for a walking trip, but with this new ability a whole bunch of trips can be made."
