The windy conditions in Kelowna will continue this week testing flood protections along Okanagan Lake.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for the region that includes Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton.
Meteorologist Cindy Yu says a low pressure system will gradually push through the Okanagan on Thursday.
"As a result we are expecting the wind from the south to pick up late Thursday morning to Thursday evening. We are expecting wind speed to reach 30 to 40 kmh with gusts between 50 and 60 kmh," she says.
Yu warns that with high water levels in Okanagan Lake, the wind will generate waves that could lead to shoreline flooding and erosion - the risk is highest along shores exposed to the south.
The wind is expected to ease Thursday night - and there's little rain expected.
