The trial of Chad Colton Alphonse of Kelowna has reached its halfway point, and a witness took the stand Wednesday to describe what happened prior to the stabbing death of Waylon Jackson in March 2016.
The witness, whose identity is protected under a publication ban, said Alphonse was very intoxicated at the party where the incident took place, coming off as overly sarcastic and difficult to deal with.
At one point, Alphonse reportedly got into an argument with his girlfriend, only for Jackson to intervene, and from there, things got physical.
The witness recalled seeing Jackson pummelling Alphonse on the ground before hitting him over the head with a kitchen chair numerous times. The witness then pleaded wtih Jackson to stop before he hurt or killed Alphonse.
Jackson was then stabbed moments later, and Alphonse was arrested near where the incident took place, and later charged with one count of second degree murder.
The witness claimed in court to have suffered from significant trauma and PTSD since the incident.
It is unknown whether or not Alphonse will ask for self defense to be considered a factor in the case.
