At around 3:50 am Tuesday morning (June 11) - West Kelowna RCMP received a request to assist BC Emergency Health Services who were responding to a report of a single vehicle collision along Boucherie Road near Mission Hill Road.
RCMP have determined that the green Ford Fusion involved had been northbound on Boucherie Road, when it left the roadway into a field.
The lone passenger sustained non-life threatening injuries during the collision and remained at the scene, while the driver allegedly fled the crash scene on foot.
The passenger was transported to hospital by BC Emergency Health Services for further medical assessment and treatment. RCMP continued their investigation into the hit and run collision, which included a search of the surrounding area vineyards for the driver.
Officer's spotted the suspect driver and upon their approach, the 21-year-old West Kelowna woman, decided to enter into the waters of Okanagan Lake.
Concerned for the woman's overall well-being, the RCMP police boat and fire department rescue vessel were launched and aided in the apprehension of the driver, who was later transported to hospital for a full assessment.
