A woman is recovering in hospital after she was found floating in Okanagan Lake.
A sail boat operator dialed 911 after spotting the woman’s motionless body near the William Bennett Bridge Wednesday afternoon- likely saving the woman's life.
The victim - a woman in her 30’s who jumped from the bridge- was seriously injured, but alive when rescuers pulled her out of the water just before 7:00pm.
“Emergency crews rushed to the scene and found the woman to be conscious and breathing, however verbally unresponsive,” said Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey in a news release “Medical crews at the scene suspected that the woman may have sustained serious lower body injuries.”
She was transported in the fire department rescue boat to shore, where she was then rushed to hospital by BC Ambulance Service.
“RCMP investigators have reason to believe that the woman may have intentionally jumped from the bridge span and had been laying for more than 35 minutes injured,” says O’Donaghey.
RCMP say the woman is from Kelowna.
Her injuries are not believed to be life threatening in nature.
