It's a sure sign that spring is around the corner.
The Regional District of the Central Okanagan will be collecting leaves, needles, wood chips, and other yard waste every two weeks beginning March 1 until the end of November.
Waste Reduction Facilitator Rae Stewart says the waste is taken to the Glenmore Landfill where its turned into compost.
“It’s made into a really great soil enhancer that people can purchase at the landfill eventually, for use in their gardens come spring time,” she says “so it’s really important that it’s kept free, this material that you put in the waste cart, of any of the foreign matter”
Last year, 15,000 tons of yard waste was collected.
You're reminded to put your yard waste out for collection by 7 am on the morning of your regular garbage day.
