At Monday's City Council meeting, Kelowna International Airport officials will be asking for approval on a number of increased parking fees at YLW.
If approved, these would be the increases in parking costs, starting December 1st:
The airport would also be scrapping their "first 15 minutes free" deal in favour of their recently installed cell phone lot.
Airport Director Sam Samaddar says these extra costs will go straight back into the airport.
"We've looked at the costs of maintaining the facilities, and if you look at things like our operational labour costs, those have all gone up since we last raised the fees in 2014," says Samaddar. "We also have a tremendous increase in traffic - we've grown about 9.4 percent this year, and 38 percent over the last five years, so we're going to have to invest about $5.3 million into additional parking."
Samaddar says we could see new parking spaces at YLW by the end of 2019.
He adds that the airport is on track for a record year with two million passengers, which would make YLW the 10th busiest airport in Canada.
