On Tuesday, shortly before 8:30 AM, a young girl was walking her bike across the intersection of Gordon Drive and Springfield Road in Kelowna, when her bike was suddenly hit by a car.
The impact knocked her to the ground, and her bike was heavily damaged.
The driver of the vehicle then pulled around the girl and stopped briefly before driving off.
“The unknown vehicle involved in the incident has been described to police as a white 4-door sedan, possibly with a female driver,” says RCMP Corporal Jesse O’Donaghey. “The vehicle could have markings or damage to its right front passenger side. “
The girl was shaken by the incident, and had sustained some injuries. Luckily, some bystanders at the scene rushed to help her after she was hit.
Police are reminding drivers to be careful of the large number of cyclists in the region during Bike to Work Week.
So far, no witnesses have been able to provide a license plate number for the suspect vehicle. Any additional witnesses to the incident are asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP.
