Traffic and transit delays in place for Cherry Blossom Triathlon

It might be wise to avoid Lower mission on the morning of Sunday, May 3. The annual Cherry Blossom Triathlon will be taking place, creating some delays to traffic and pedestrians.

The bike course follows a clockwise loop from H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre on Gordon Drive, to Casorso Road, Swamp Road and Dehart Road back to Gordon.

There will be one-lane closures in effect from 5 a.m. to 12 p.m. The right lane for northbound traffic on Gordon Drive from Old Meadows Road to Casorso Road will be impacted as well as eastbound traffic on Casorso Road from Gordon Drive to Swamp Road.  The right turn lane on Dehart Road to Gordon Drive and northbound traffic on Gordon Drive from Dehart Road to Tozer Avenue will also be impacted. The City says a detour will be available to Lakeshore Drive.

In addition, there will be no left turns from Lequime Road onto Gordon Drive. Cars needing to turn left onto Gordon Drive are being told to use Cook Road or Lexington Drive.

Minor delays are also anticipated from 7:15 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the intersections of Lexington Drive and Gordon Drive, Lequime Road and Gordon Drive, Old Meadows Road and Gordon Drive, and Bartholomew Court and Dehart Road as participants will be crossing; the lights will be flashing and traffic control personnel will be visible to direct traffic.

A portion of the parking lot in front of H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre will be closed to accommodate the transition area and finish line.

Transit stops will be closed on the east side of Gordon Drive from Dehart Road to Casorso Road between 7:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Possible minor disruptions in transit service may occur at Gordon Drive and Lequime Road between 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. In addition, bus #5 will exit onto Gordon Drive at Lequime Road as there will be no transit access in front of H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre.

Traffic control personnel will be visible to direct traffic.
