Dredging is completed at the City of Kelowna’s Cook Road Boat Launch. The City says the boat launch is now open following the work to improve launch conditions and safety for boaters.
“Thank you to the boating community for your patience while this work was completed,” said Bradely Steele, Design Technician. “These improvements will help provide safer and more reliable access for boaters as we head into the long weekend.”
In response to concerns raised by the community, The City says it worked quickly with provincial staff and contractors to complete the dredging work and restore safer access ahead of the long weekend. Low lake levels and sand buildup gradually reduced access at the launch, creating safety concerns and increasing the risk of damage to boats and trailers.
Approximately 240 cubic metres of sand, equivalent to 20 truckloads, needed to be removed from the launch area.
Boaters are reminded that drought conditions and fluctuating lake levels continue to affect launch conditions throughout the region. Users should exercise caution, be aware of changing water depths, and check conditions before heading out on the water.
