UPDATE (1:20pm)
Kelowna RCMP say a response to an alleged break and enter at a home on DeHart avenue came up empty handed.
Mounties say Wednesday, September 9, 2026, around 8:40 am, they were called to a report of a break and enter in progress at a residence in the 700-block of DeHart Avenue.
A resident reported to police that an unknown individual was inside their home and had barricaded themself after their presence became known. Based on the information available at the time and out of an abundance of caution, RCMP say officers surrounded the residence and initiated efforts to safely arrest the individual believed to be inside.
Police say initial attempts to establish contact with a suspect were unsuccessful and they called the Southeast District Emergency Response Team to assist. As the investigation progressed, officers discovered the initial report was based on incorrect information and no one was inside the residence.
RCMP say officers remain on scene completing the investigation and there is no risk to the public.
