UPDATE (5:20 p.m.)
The Kelowna Fire Department (KFD) has added more details about their response to fire at the University of British Columbia Okanagan Campus (UBCO). KFD says around 12:25 pm they responded to a roof top fire at the Creative and Critical Studies building (CCS) on 1140 Research rd.
When the first fire crew arrived on scene, heavy smoke could be seen from the roof and one side of the building. KFD says the incident became a second alarm call with 5 engines, 2 ladder trucks, rescue truck and a command unit. Crews confirmed heavy smoke in the building and confirmed all occupants were safety out of the building. KFD also says crews remained on scene after putting out the fire to ventilate smoke from the building.
There were no injuries on scene.
The fire is under investigation but is not deemed suspicious.
UBCO says The CCS building will remain closed until further notice. Students with impacted classes or exams will receive additional instructions by email. All other buildings, classes, or exams are unaffected, and campus services outside CCS are operating normally.
