This year businesses can also expect some changes to the business licence system.
With a new year comes the requirement for Kelowna businesses to renew their business licences, and this year businesses can also expect some changes to the business licence system.
The deadline for renewals is 4 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, and they can be completed online, in-person at City Hall or through the mail. All City of Kelowna registered businesses, including short-term rental operators, were sent renewal reminder notices in December.
For those operating a mobile business, meaning they do business in more than one Okanagan community but with only one fixed location, a mobile business licence is available for an additional $150 fee.
“Changes are being made this year to modernize the City’s business licence system and improve service,” said Greg Wise, Busincess Licence Manager. “Some licence codes have been updated in 2020 to better reflect the diversity of Kelowna’s businesses, and new online service features are expected to be implemented this spring.”
New online service features will allow for updated customer functionality including emailed statements and improved online payments and applications. To encourage timely payments, additional changes will include fees for applications, transfer or change of location of licence, and late renewals.
Updates or changes to an existing business licence can be made by calling 250-469-8960 or emailing developmentservicesinfo@kelowna.ca. For any businesses no longer operating, licences can be cancelled by calling 250-469-8617 or emailing businesslicences@kelowna.ca. Requests need to include a business licence number.
Renewal options:
online at kelowna.ca/onlineservices with Visa or MasterCard
in person at City Hall with cash, cheque, money order or debit card
by mail (cheque or money order) to 1435 Water Street, Kelowna, BC V1Y 1J4
