A Vancouver man convicted of dealing drugs in the Okanagan was sentenced to 17 months in jail on Thursday morning.
Behrang Khosravi was first arrested in a West Kelowna hotel room in July of 2016 after a police investigation revealed that he was dealing drugs in his car.
During the arrest, police found meth, fentanyl, heroin, and cocaine, all packaged for trafficking. They also found $21,000 in cash.
Khosravi's trial was put on hold earlier this year after he claimed that his charter rights were violated when police arrested him without a warrant and performed a strip search on him.
This led to a week-long voir dire, also known as a "trial within a trial," which ended when Judge Allan Betton disagreed with Khosravi's claims, stating that there was enough evidence to justify the arrest and strip search. In May, Khosravi was found guilty of three counts of drug trafficking.
Khosravi's total sentence amounted to 48 months in jail, but he received enhanced credit of 31 months time served. He was also given a lifetime ban on owning firearms.
