City council took another step forward to facilitate non-medical cannabis retail stores in Kelowna.
On Monday, they agreed to forward the first seven applications to a public hearing that will be held on April 9th.
The City started accepting applications to rezone properties for retail cannabis sales in October 2018.
RCMP and City staff then evaluated applications based on criteria including compliance with City bylaws, business overview, and neighborhood strategy.
Application regulations require stores to be a minimum 150 metres from select parks and elementary schools, and no less than 500 metres from middle and secondary schools.
Out of a total 41 applications, 15 were selected.
Here are the proposed locations for Cannabis Retail Stores:
If the applications are approved by council they will be forwarded to the Province with a supporting recommendation for their approval.
Once at the provincial level, it is uncertain how long applications will take before we see stores opening up.
