Construction continues on the Okanagan rail trail. A 12 kilometre stretch in the North Okanagan, 5 kilometres near Oyama, and a tender is out for the area between Dillworth and the airport, here in Kelowna.
City of Kelowna project planner Andrew Gibbs says it'll be one more year, "The funding target is roughly 7.8 million dollars. There's still 2 and half million left to raise. The hope is that will come in this year, hopefully, by spring-summer so we can finish everything off by the end of 2018."
One way to help is the “Gift-a-Metre” initiative. You can donate on behalf of someone and send them a personalized certificate as a gift. Christmas gifting of - more than a metre, or less than a metre will help finish the trail. Certificates, designed like shares in an old railway, are available to personalize for each gift.
